Its been almost 18 years that I’ve had a twitter account. I just checked before deactivating my account. I haven’t really used it since joining Facebook over 11 years ago. Before that, it was my community. It is where I connected with other nerds, shared tips, blog posts and made friends that I would meet at conferences. It gave me opportunities and grew my career.
But its far from that anymore.
This fall has been an interesting one in the news from Iowa. Its goofy season
here so every day there is some political news coming from the state. I can’t
wait for the caucuses so we can vote some of these bums out of the running.
But more importantly, it started in early fall at the Iowa / Iowa State game
when a guy names Carson King held up a sign stating he needed some beer money.
I’m running the official Twitter 2.0.2 app for Mac. And I must say, its a nice update to Tweetie that was long in coming. However, twitter needs to fix 2 things to make it a great app.
Refresh Rates – My client likes to go into stupid mode for hours or days at a time. If I don’t notice and hit refresh, I simply won’t get updates. While nice for the lack of distraction, its still a bug that’s easy to spot.
As I was checking in today on the latest tech news, I found out that Twitter has announced that they are building their own data center.
Death to the fail whale they are calling it. Maybe so, but what really got me was this.
Twitter will have full control over network and systems configuration, with a much larger footprint in a building designed specifically around our unique power and cooling needs.
Seriously CNN, is this the best that you can do?
In case you are wondering why people no longer look to you for news, this is why. Some blowhole closing his twitter account shouldn’t make the front page of cnn.com.
