Scheduling

I ran across this video at the beginning of the year and it dramatically changed how I look at my week. I used to have every minute packed and often time I would go from one half hour meeting to the next with no time to prep or really be prepared for what was going to happen in the next 30 minutes. Sometimes even prepping in the last part of one meeting for the next meeting.

What Warren Buffett taught Bill Gates about managing time by sharing his (nearly) blank calendar from Ryan McDaniel on Vimeo.

So I did something about it.

I blocked off time. A lot of time. 25% of my week to be exact.

Now every day at 3PM, its my time. Sure I have some meetings in there. But they are MY meetings. I decide what goes in them and what does not. This has been a huge win for my day. I can now end it by finishing up that interview feedback. Writing out whatever tasks were required of me and actually completing them before heading home. So when I get home, I’m HOME! Not still half way back in the office.

Give yourself the chance to actually do work AT work! Trust me, you’ll be better off for it.
