VMworld 2012 – Day 1

I’m a little behind on this one so I’ll give the high levels of what I saw.

The keynote was the official handing off ceremony from Paul Maritz to Pat Gelsinger. Paul has done some great things in his past 4 years at the helm of the company with one exception, vRam. On his way out, they made sure to clean that up as well. It was a debate who would get the bigger applause, Paul for his leadership, or vRam going away.

The other big announcements weren’t overly big to me. They highlighted the vCloud suite which is the evolution of their vCloud director, vSphere and other products. The products have gotten more integrated and seamless which I think we’ll all be happy about.

I attempted to take one lab on Day 1 and had some issues. had to bounce to several different machines and when I got into a lab, about 30 minutes through, I had more issues where I had to eventually abandon the lab. So far I have only done the traditional labs, but looking to try a BYOD lab later on this week.
